Category: Let's talk
Hello, I often here here politicians speak about issues that affect our great nation. They touch on subject they have too based on their positions. I am disappointed that I never hear a single politician talk about revising the ADA. The laws that that have put in the book as a result of this great Act are sometimes too vague. For example, the reasonable accomdation in school mainly colleges. Anyone seems to demand some action. Does anyone care about these sort of issues, or has Hollywood topics have taken over in priority in our life? I mean let's talk about entertainment, but let's also discuss a law that affect all disabled Americans.
I tend to prefer a politician talk about things that actually wil really effect people in a greater number than a minority group or the world. I prefer to hear a politician talk about removing my country from a war we don't belong in or reparing the damage that therecent work place relations laws have rought upon the common workers and making the employer more powerful and able to discriminate.
these are the issues that your politicians should be elected on.
I think the ADA has it's good and it's bad points. I don't like the stipulation that employers can't ask me up front how I can do a certain job given my blindness or that they can't just tell me that they're not hiring me because I'm blind. There's enough lying and bullshit in Greek politics, I don't need to have it here too. Just tell the damned truth and ask the questions on your mind! That way, if I really can do the job, you'll see and can hire me without that nagging little question in the back of your mind. I also don't like quotas for minorities, ex, colleges have to except a certain number or businesses have to hire a certain number.
I agree with Soviet.
When are we, as blind people, going to get over the idea that the world owes us anything 'cause we're poor blinks.
ADA was won because a lot of people got out there and marched and protested for it. They didn't hang around the zone wondering where all the politicians were.
Yes, ADA is flawed. Yes it could use some upgrading. No, it won't happen because we cried our crokadile tears dreaming of halcyon days that never were, and never will be until people get off their lazy asses and do something about it.
Monday is Martin Luther King day ... yipee another holiday, thanks for the holiday MLK.
Bob
Amen, Bobby!
It would be nice for them to talk about it, but is it actually going to happen? Sadly, I don't think so. We're a minority, and I don't see the ADA as being an issue in this year's presidential race. This country, especially, has more things to worry about. Maybe one day, when we're not fighting wars, having a good economy, and having the illegal immigration crissis solved, then it might be an issue. Yes, I agree with the previous posters that ADA has its flaws, but unless someone gets up and does something about it, we won't be hearing about it come Election Day.
